It is with much sadness that NBYC reports the passing of Sydney Kingi, our much valued and highly respected Rear Commodore.

Sydney was a tremendous asset to the club. His many contributions included being Race Officer for our Sunday races, our Health and Safety Officer, helping run our venue hire business and organising and maintaining our yachts and equipment.

Sydney – you were hugely respected and much loved by all at the Club. You were always there to provide help and guidance to us – and always with such dignity and a smile. Rest in peace our dear friend.

The Committee has agreed that in recognition of Sydney’s significant contributions to the club and to honour and keep his memory  alive, in 2023 we will be introducing the “Sydney Kingi Memorial Cup” – which will be a special trophy awarded annually to a Club member who has achieved outstanding success in Club racing during  the year. Sydney’s memory will live on in the waters off Birkenhead and Northcote.
